Top four from each pool make the semi-finals.
Fees: $15.00 per person due immediately. Please have the team captain collect for everyone.
Rules:
*Make calls for your own team. Period. Only captains shall discuss disputed calls, most of which will result in a replay if they can not be quickly settled.
Games
* Play will consist of 3 - 25 point games, NO CAP, unless time restraints require differently. In that event, captains should decide BEFORE starting the game what the cap will be.
*Please be prompt for matches, if the first match-3rd game starts after 8:30, it should only be a 15 pt game
Serving
* The ball must be released prior to service. (ie. an underhand serve can not be sitting in your palm when you strike it for service.)
* Let serves are allowed. (ie. the ball touching the net and continuing over into the court.)
* Serves must be contacted with the hand or arm.
* Foot Fault- A foot fault occurs when the server steps on the line or into the court prior to or at contact with the serve. The penalty for a foot fault is a side-out.
Playing the Ball
* The whole body is legal to use to play the ball from forehead to toes, just keep that ball off the floor!
* Multiple contacts on a first ball are legal as long as it is one attempt to play the ball. (ie. the ball is served/hit at you, and it goes off your right arm, then right leg, and up enough that someone plays it.)
* The block does NOT count as the teams first hit.
* Lifts - A lift is defined as a prolonged contact with the ball (ie. rolling up your arm). Call your own, or if several of your teammates have stopped playing due to the play (or lift), just take their word for it. Since we have a wide range of skill level here and some people will police themselves tighter than others. Please adjust accordingly.
Net Violations
* Ponytails and longer hair touching the net is NOT a violation.
* Any other part of the body touching the net at any time IS a violation.
* Since there is no guarantee of centerlines all season, and no refs to call it, inadvertently going under the net will not be a foul unless you make contact, and interfere with that players chance to play the ball.
Obstructions
* Center Backboard (It should be raised up so we can play.)
* Any serve that hits this will be a side-out.
* Any first or second ball that hits the backboard and stays on your side may continue play.
* Any third ball hitting the backboard will be a side-out.
* Any ball that hits the backboard while crossing the net will be a dead ball with a point rewarded.
* End Backboards
* Any first or second ball that hits the backboard that by judgment would remain in play is a replay. If the ball was wildly going out towards the wall, consider it gone, and a point rewarded.
* If after a third hit a ball hits the bottom of the backboard, a replay is called.
Eligibility
* Teams must have at least 3 original players before adding pick-ups, otherwise they must forfeit the games for that night.
* Please ask the opposing Captain if it is ok to pick up players from another teams roster, (please specify who you want to play), before play starts. As long as the captain agrees, the games stand. Non-rostered subs need no appoval.
* Players must play a minimum of 3 weeks to be eligible for playoffs.
Playoff format subject to change based on number of teams entered.
*Playoffs: Top 8 teams from the pool qualify for playoffs (9 team max)
*Ties for 1st through 7th will be decided based on match play in league.
*Ties will be decided by who won when those teams played.
*Ties if teams did not play each other will be decided by records vs common opponents.
*Ties for 8th will send us into utter chaos. (just kidding)
*Ties for 8th will be decided by a single 21pt tie breaker game.
*Prizes: Top 2 finishers will be awarded
or
*Top 4 from each pool qualify for playoffs.
